hi martin ,
first of all ,thank you very much to both you and matt for the speed with
which you have managed to get all the works going ,its been a huge help
,and geting all the funding sorted so fast was only possible with your
cooperation ,
after our last conversation ,you were going to mail me to help understand
the quote comparison between the nov 19th quote ,JNT858A ,OF £8045 for 4
domestic supplies from the sse pole ,and the present job quote which ,with
the templewood quote and garys quote seems ,and i may have this all wrong
,to add up to
£5200 west cott, east cott, park lodge.
£1200 park farm house
£4900 templewood
tot £11300.
so the addition of one industrial unit, en route ,, and a shorter line of
cabling than was proposed in nov ,seems to be costing £3255 more, can you
help me get to grips with how this all works?
in the event of a claim on the previous supplier , it would be usefull to
have a complete understanding of why the two quotes are different.
thanks martyn,
regards
robert
and his reply.....
Dear Mr Burnett The quote JNT858a for 4 supplies was a completely different route and didnt take into account any commercial supplies. A smaller cable was quoted for because it didnt warrant a larger cable for the 4 supplies and distance. The quote which has been accepted requires a larger cable due to the extra load of the commercial supplies Regards Martyn
so not a lot of info there ,but i think tonally a bit 'dont ask me about this ' ish .it doesnt really sound very logical to me ,but,at least its all in .

from iain on the front ..
Jan 29 - SSE the nations number one!
Okay lets do the good news.
4 houses have 4 meters all ready to go
Held this one back from yesterday as did not want to jinx it... Gary has been using his charm(?) when the templewood honcho was in and it is looking like they have instructed their contractors to connect up the pump station. Think they are putting a private meter in from their supply and will aim to charge it back to Barret deducted from rent (so their contractor told me). Great result if comes to fruition.
Onto SSE. Bit of chaos this morning with Matt coming on site, they guy making the connection out back flagged up that yesterday SSE had laid the wrong cable (all 100M of it). To make things worse Chris had just back-filled 2/3rds of the trench. Think 3K of wasted cable was talked about, Matt not happy. Anyway they did put a new one in later in the day and some connections have been made but obviously there has been some delay. Tuesday is still live day though apparently.
Bit more Robert specific - SSE did put some pipe/duct around the cable running along the base of the house so that looks a lot better now. I popped back just after he'd fitted the meter for a look and found that the bottom hinge of the box had popped out (sigh). Reckoned he'd opened it over 180 deg. I called him back to see if he could sort it but after faffing a bit he dropped the metal bar - once we found it I've popped it in a bag for when Robert is back. Expect it can be popped back in, or put right another way by a proper engineer.
Was expecting my garden to be put back together in the afternoon and was going to give Chris & co some more cash, but with the delays/re-trenching he did not have time. Think most of Park Lodge is done though. Managed a quick chat with him, seems like he will be back on Monday to finish off.
Just to cap off SSE's day, one of their guys reversed into the gate post (near butchers) and took the bumper off the van - oops!
Gary is reckoning the diesel should (just) last till Tuesday....

what to do with the old cables ?
i sent matt a question about the old cables ..
here is his reply ..
Thanks Robert I had just realised this fact whilst on site the other day and i have arranged for the mains cable to be cut and straight jointed on to the new mains we are laying. This effectively cuts off the cable that is terminated within the generator room i have also talked to our revenue protection guys about recovering the meter there. As for the fact that he may connect up the existing system to the new one he would have to connect from somewhere beyond the meters that we install so any juice used would be paid for through that meter so we are not worried in that respect. What i would suggest to you guys is that you get the cables pot ended outside your properties somewhere you would need to talk to an electrician about this. Then he cant connect up through any of your meters.Regards, Matt
so either open up the ground and cap it off there , or cap it off at the house in a way that is difficult to reuse , sounds like the options.

progress and waste stuff
from iain ,
Thur 28th lunch - just popped over and the guys are just joining our main trench to Templewoods -so briefly there is no vehicle access on either road (thankfully Gary topped up the gen tank earlier). No SSE on site currently, but they think they are expected later. All 4 houses have boxes ready for meters I believe.
Council-environ cried off yesterday (they wanted to come with dye for sewers). Separate chats with Robert & Billy is adding weight to the pump station pumping a little up hill along road in direction of Northmoor in order to hit the drains there. Gary had definite confirmation from the pump maintenance guys that the station is for effluent.

oh ok ,

photos ,
anyone taking any pics of all this historic suff? ,especially so we know where all the cables went if barratt digs in the area in the future !
blimey high jinks
this from iain today wed 27th...
Day started poorly, thought I fetch some cash form the bank to give our digggers some tide over cash. Checked on net, opens at 9am and I had to be back for 9:30 conf cal, finel. I'm waiting at door at 9am only to be told it is staff training today, opening delayed till 9:30! Anyway, passed some over to Chris from what came from cash machine. I've attached it as much for my own sake really as brain is mush at moment and I don't want to lose track. Think it was well received as he was just hiring a larger digger for the main dig. Don't expect any problems but Billy and I will keep in touch and keep some back until all finished off, as that is good practice.
Bit later in the morning a load of SSE vans started turning up with cables! Day early were all thinking. First thought it was just the big un for Templewood trench - apparently they were due to arrive today. But later in day more turned up, and in the end 3 blokes were pulling the 95 cables into Park Lodge and I have two rolls of the smaller cables in the garden ready for the ducting. Did not walk round but reckon the main trench is about done now.
Robert - call to botley revealed no more boxes in stock - ah, but abingdon did so all okay on that front. Have box & stick ready to go on wall first thing. Weather forecast looks better Thursday which is a bonus.
Chris revealed that Ironing guys has asked him for a quote now.
Lets see what Thursday brings...
Iain
so iain has given chris 300 pounds so far .
well done iain and thanks again for your help with the box and hockey stick . not sure why sse turned up on 27th , i thought it was all supposed to start on the 28th as iain did ?
im going to deal with the connection from the meter to the house when i return ,so no one needs to bother with that .
might be worth looking inot templewoods building to see if there an isolator switch to the pumping stn in there ? if there is then presumably when thier leccy goes on the stn would work ..(gross wishfull thinking here)
regards robert .

monday update
from iain...
Was away today but tried to come back early for a catch up.
Digging underway at East Cott & Park Lodge, we have a plunge pool out back ;-) The Templewood dig has started also.
Gary had a chat (with Chris I think) and suggestion is that the pump near Gary's garden is NOT for sewage, just the standing water from the parking area.
I've been chatting to Suman at council environ health again as I'd raised the potential pumping problem last week. She reported that Barret has washed hands of it (no surprise there). She's been on to Thames Water and pulled some plans and thinks there is a Thames owned pump station further South on the site, thinks it does not go to any main by the road. She's planning on visiting the site Tues about 10:30.
Spoke with Matt to check he was still coming, he is on call tonight but assuming no probs will be here around 9am.
He told me that the remaining units have contacted him about being connected up - so if any money does come back our way from SSE great. If so, it may come to me as my name is on the quote but don't worry I'll make sure it is divided up appropriately (bearing in mind Billy's larger share).
Iain
all sounds good and as you say predictable from barratt.fascinating that htere may be another pumping stn somewhere .

trenching quote ,,
heres the quote that iain got from the builders ,after a bit of think i called iain today and confirmed that i would go for this as well ,oh ,thank you gary for the texts , i got them this morning .
No, not trench coats! Trench quotes..
Gary has just been round;
1) Big dig to go from Templewood to land out back - split 3 ways (EC, WC, PL)
£960 - so £320 each....
Note, this is the slightly revised route that keeps the cost down, me/Gary/Chris(digger) need to have the rubber stamped by Matt.
2) Small dig to go to WC & EC boundary fence & wall (assuming we go with the shared trench) - split 2 ways (EC, WC)
£460 - This price includes 2 ducts.
3) Smallish dig to go to PL - 1 split (PL)
£560
Think Gary has already given them the nod, so we need to think quickly. My initial thoughts are they seem reasonable and I'm in.
Thanks Gary for assistance with this.
Iain
thanks to iain for doing a fine job of working it all out equably . and gary for his help in all this stuff .
i was at the hospital yesterday , chloes operation was a far big bigger than anticipated ,and laparoscopy wasnt sufficient ,so after investigation a 4 to 5 inch cut was made and a lot of work done , she'll be in hospital for 3 days ,and is being pretty brave .if im a little distracted or slow to react im sue you all understand .

matts details about connection timeframe sort of thing
Hello All
Ok i can now confirm that the cables for your part of the job will be laid on the 28th Jan PM appointment so you must have all your ground-works ready and all meter boxes or access holes for service cables ready too. The jointers will then be on-site to do all the connections and fit all meters ready for your sparky to connect to on the 29th Jan. I must stress i have put my neck on the line in squeezing this in so please have all your works ready for when we come as you can appreciate the guys are on price work and if the site isn't ready for them they will leave site and you will be charged an aborted call of £90+vat i hope this is ok as its the best i could do with so little time to work with!!! usually customers have a min 4week wait for appointments but as we all know this isn't your normal situation any probs get in touch.
Regards,
Matt
Sorry guys i have just realised i said that it will be ready for your sparky on the 29th Jan this is not the case as the other works is not being livened up untill the 2nd of Feb so you will all be ready for swap over on the same day as each other the 2nd of Feb
Regards,
Matt
Many thanks for your efforts and understanding with this Matt.
Yes we thought it was originally Feb 2nd also. Believe Gary has already spoken with you about the slight revision that the contractors recommended to us, I think it aligns with an option you discussed with us when on site also.
I'm afraid I'm only able to scan A4 size but hopefully you can see the attached (if the file type is blocked let me know and I'll send again). The end point is the same and the start point is very close to original plan. Apparently they have located the route of an old water main and can follow close to that.
Believe you may have to re-confirm the way-leave on this. For what it is worth this route avoids making a mess of the business unit frontages and will probably make any future connections easier to said units.

new developments on payments
well lots happening ,and most of it good !
this quote from iain ,along with a copy of the form ,
Hi
For your records here is what I will hand in, they may need to scribble on it about the payment arrangements. My reckoning is that it has the plan/quote code on it which shows 3 domestic supplies, and they will receive 3 payments so it should be clear, but I'll check if there is anything else they need and if so if they can do it by email. Don't want them sending me 3 leccy bills either ;-) They should have enough info from all of us by now.
Update later
Iain
then this ...
Slight fun & games as Martyn had a flat tyre on way to work and was delayed, however saw a young lady (Crystal I think) who would have received the file next anyway.
I have a receipt for the cheques, they won't give receipt for the BACS tarnsfer until the money hits.
She noted down the 3 properties/surnames so we should be okay on that front.
Iain
then this!....
Matt
Just to update you that the quote acceptance form was received this morning along with cheques and a BACS transfer from yesterday - so that side is complete.
Can you please check on the "way leave" situation and if not received yet chase and also let us know so we may apply some pressure from our side in addition.
Many thanks
Iain, Billy, Robert
then from matt ..
Hi Iain
Its all good news you will be glad to know!! I now have your job to arrange and i also have the signed way-leave forms so we are all systems go i will contact you shortly to discuss available dates hopefully by the end of the week.
Regards,
Matt
then iain to matt..
Thanks you for that information Matt.
In case you did not know, the situation we have is once Templewood are connected then the rest of us are effectively without power from that point on. Difficult situation for all, and especially those with children.
Appreciate your issues also, however we are very focussed on having the trenching done in pretty much the same timescales as the Templewood trenching.
If there is an opportunity to maximise the effectiveness of your guys and reduce the number of visits to the site to all of our benefit then clearly we'd want to do that.
Might you be able to set out the must have dates so we can ensure our contractor will meet them?
iain
so thats the payments and permits sorted ..

1 main run
2 ec wc shared dig in 2 ducts
3 pfl
hope all well your end any news on Chloe's hospital visit?
hi gary , the duct to wc and ec will be one duct to iains or two ducts ,one to each house .., so can he give prices for both options ?
thanks for asking about chloe , we just ,this minute, got the booking for surgery at 10.30 tomorrow , so we have to get to the hospital at 8.30 ... so my communication tomorow will probably be very little .the operation will take 2 hrs if all goes as planned , and we may be back tomorrow or the next day depending .

boxes and hockey sticks !
this from iain the human dynamo ...
This may not be relevant for either of you, but in case it is..

http://www.qvsdirect.com/Hockey-Stick-for-Meter-Cabinet-pr-22136.html
Apparently they should all be available in Jewsons, although I struggled with their web site.
Gary I think is planning on having his meter inside so maybe a potential cost saving there Robert, although may need more "hockey sticks" I guess.
Iain
i seem to remember seeing a lot of teenage girls running around the cokethorpe fields on the way to witney with loads of hockey sticks ,maybe they could be persuaded to part with some ?!
but seriously ,how is gary going to have the meter inside ?does one chunk a hole in the wall ,run the new mains cable in ,and then stick the new meter where the old one was and connect it up ?if so that sounds doable .
my concern is , if i get back and the cable is lieing there capped off but live , is it ok for me to do the wall bit, and then will sse come and connect it to thier meter for me with it live ,? ill have to ask matt about that ,but as you say iain , it could save 50 odd quid ,doing it that way .

bill and stuff
iain did a good job of working this out i think ..
Hi both
As discussed, spoke with Martyn for his impartiality and knowledge and he suggested a figure around £250 for the additional cabling/distance into PFL.
So if we all agree proposal is
EC £1655
WC £1655
PFL £1904 (thanks to Billy for understanding on this)
----------
£5214
It is a bitter pill but one I guess we have to swallow.
Now Martyn is okay with 3 (or 2 cheques). My intention will be to go to Yarnton tomorrow (Thur) and hand over a completed form plus cheques.
Robert I think you mentioned your sister helping as you are overseas. Would she be able to have a cheque for SSE here by Thur am, or might you & Billy be able to work something out? Also, we are planning to nominate SSE as our supplier. Obviously they are not on any of our xmas card lists but we feel it is best option to avoid them blaming any 3rd parties for delays. We can individually transfer later as we wish.
Gary's groundwork contact was caught in traffic yesterday and did not make it, he's meant to be here tonight. Am thinking about backup in case that does not come off. Have just tried Nick V but he must have changed mobile as number not recognised. Barrett's son in laws father has also been mentioned. Gary may be able to turn something up.
Once we have someone I think we are looking for a quotes as follows;
1) Big dig to go from Templewood to land out back - split 3 ways (EC, WC, PFL)
2) Small dig to go to WC & EC boundary (assuming we go with the shared trench) - split 2 ways (EC, WC)
3) Small dig to go to PFL - 1 split (PFL)
Hope that makes sense.
Iain
so thanks to iain and billy for good cooperation ,and to billy for making an allowance for length ..er...if you see what i mean .
i spoke to martyn about the price and how it seemed 3.5k more than the nov price ,with only one more addition for templewood ,and asked him to put the reasons in writing for me in a mail.
we may need this if we want to try to get moneys back off barratt.
i arranged for my sister ,catherine ,to send the money to sse by bank transfer ,and i understand that gary and his digging chap are checking out the scene to get prices for the trenching .
iain has let me know that if it proves to be a good solution price wize we can use the same trench for our link to east and west cott ,,and simplify things that way too.
regards
robert
Hi both
As discussed, spoke with Martyn for his impartiality and knowledge and he suggested a figure around £250 for the additional cabling/distance into PFL.
So if we all agree proposal is
EC £1655
WC £1655
PFL £1904 (thanks to Billy for understanding on this)

Sorry Robert i did forget!!!!
i can now confirm that we are installing 185mm2 wavecon cable when we attend site on the 27th Jan to complete templewoods works in preparation for your works to carry on from this. Also i have attended site today and we have agreed a route which will take the cable along the road opp templwoods office and carry straight on into the scrub land behind your back gardens where we will joint a bit of 95mm2 cable off the end to carry on into Billy Mcneil's property to feed his house i will attach a plan for you to look at and i believe Martin should have a quote off to you guys by tomorrow i have advised him to e-mail the quote to all of you involved hope this is all you need.
Regards,
Matt
and then this one
One Thing i will also mention is that i have spoken to Pete Barrett today as we will need a way leave signed by him as the land owner before we can go ahead with any works. Our wayleave officer has e-mailed him a copy to sign today hopefully this will see a swift conclusion but if for any reason this process is held up it will obviously hold up the planned works

quotation
new quote from sse for 3 domestic connections..£5214.
um ,now it may just be me ,but if they pulled in £5k from templewood ,and £1200 odd from gary ,then 5.2k from us , isnt that £11414 for the 4 domestic installs and one unit which is on the path of the feed ,,,then how come in november we got a quote for 4 domestic installs all the way from the bottom by the telegraph pole ,for £8045?
where has the extra £3369 costs come from ?
i spoke to matt about the install today ..he said the plan was now to come along the front of unit 7 through the gates then along to billys .this will mean breaking through a lot of concrete ? i can see this costing a lot with diamond cutters etc .. wouldnt it have made more sense to sweep behind unit 7 ,,or is that all concrete as well ,?stuffed if i can remember .
matt said it was ok to run 2 cables for iain and i in the same trench , run it up iains garden to the porch then bring one cable over to my side along the wall ,as long as iain is ok with this arrangement .
apparently even if i dont have a box on the wall ,a cable can be put in place blanked off for me to install a box when i get back .if anyone is happy to stick a box on the wall facing the greehouse ,in front of the oil tank , i would be happy to reinburse them for the box screws etc ,, but id imagine everyone will be busy with thier own tasks in this .
i will call martyn dopson tomorrow about the quote ,matt wasnt in that department.
good news is ,that if barratt tries to link to our cable ,with the units near it ,then we will get a reimbursement ,and he will be charged to pay that back to us because we have paid for the main line ,so thats ironic .
thanks to everyone for taking time to do the meeting this morning .
nic ,that used to own iains house may be available to do digging work , he lives down at rack end ,where the silver range rover, green landrover ,and digger are parked on the right.
alternatively ,barratt who should be paying for ALL of this ,,has a chap who came over and built the hard standing for the lorries ,who was irish and very nice chap , he came from henley i think ,and had a digger and dumper truck ,and it may be worth asking barrat to get him up here.FOC!

iains update
update, another busy day.
Gary spoke with Matt, re some options on cabling etc, he seemed to be talking about going round the front for Billy, which did not sound good.
Spoke with Billy, and result is he managed to arrange to have Matt come out at 9am Tuesday.
Gary & I had a quick look round your place. Due to oil tank, greenhouse etc it does not look possible to route through there, so we'll have to look at what other options come up.

Nice one. Not sure whether to be upfront with Matthew on that or keep it up your sleeve.
Agree - "quickest, cheapest and simplest option "
So, assuming Robert is okay to have the visit while he's still away I guess your (Billy) diary may be the most difficult to clear/match - did you want to try and get him out for the visit and just buzz me to make sure I can be around also?
Robert how many hours difference are you? So we can try and dial you in as required.
Been looking at digger hire prices ;-) Not sure how seriously but you never know.

billy confirming status
got this from billy ...
Hi both,
just for clarity - I definitely have a legal right of access across Barrett's land for an electricity supply. This is something that I'm 100% certain about. Our solicitor double checked it for me when I contacted her a few weeks back. I guess it's the quickest, cheapest and simplest option we're after - whatever that is. With access across Barret's land our legal right, then all options are open.
Cheers,
Billy

convo on cable planning
just to keep everyone aware ,heres a few emails from iain with my responses ..
first off iains letter to sse , nice one !
Matthew & Martyn
For the avoidance of doubt;
From west to east, Park Farm related properties
Park Farm House - GARYALLMOND@aol.com
West Cottage - wottage@wottage.plus.com
East Cottage - iain.palk@btinternet.com
Park Lodge - WMcNEIL@RM.COM
Assume you already have phone contact numbers for all the above already but can be rectified if not.
Calls and mails are being related & passed about between us, but via this medium you may talk to all at once as required and potentially more quickly, negating data protection concerns.
Robert (West Cottage) has passed on the news about a 185 cable going into main trench - implication being the 3 remaining houses may come from there and hopefully enable a swift conclusion.
Believe Robert has already incidated to you he may not need to be there for a site visit, so not needing to delay it until his return. With mail and phones am sure we can involve him with any options or decisions. Any plans/sketches we can scan & send electronically.
There have been some previous plan drawings and one visit, so be good if you can clarify the reasons for another visit, assume there maybe still be one or two alternatives to consider. It may be you can outline them more quickly also via email?
If you could confirm the remaing steps and timelines as you see them. Do you need to produce 3 quotes or 1 quote? What may we all do to assist in progressing quickly as that is our focus.
Thanks and kind regards.
then this from iain
What seemed to be bothering Matt when he was round was cables through private land, that's one reason why they favoured the front. As they are already are digging up Barrett land then that land cannot be an issue any more.
The Nov plan looks like all 3 cables go through your garden, then Billy's through mine. This may be why he was on about another visit perhaps, did he say why to you? He did also look at going behind our garden fences and in that way. Be good to see the Templeman plan, and/or Gary's if he has one - I'll mention when I see him. SSE see Gary's as a done deal now.
Fingers crossed for more +ve progress on Monday.
Iain
hi iain ,
yes he spoke ot me about that ,and wanting to come along the rd side
verge ,ill admit i was a bit horrified by the extra distance and the cost
of digging ..
i looked at the nov plan ,and thought it would be a single cable running
inot my garden ,beside my path from templewood ,then through the fence to
you then over to billy to end at his house ,and we have one or two spurs
off this artery .
alternatively ,it would run from about 10 metres down park farm from
templewood ,and go across thre gravel ,through unit 7 back yard and the
toxic waste field in to billy and end at his house ,then we take our tees
off that .
your point about the fact that peters land is allready being used does
seem to make the obljections moot ...perhaps we should spell out to matt
that peters responibility is to supply us,and all this is really his job .
regards robert
from iain..
Forgot to mention yesterday that when I was pumping the diesel it ran out, so we are back to cans ;-( We've been switching off each night to conserve and I met with Gary this morning to borrow his jump leads (mine are too short) as he & Billy are out for the day so we'll try and shut down a bit during the day also. Anyway, was a chance to chat with him since last week.
Seems like templewoods trench stops at the west side of templewood, so near Gary's house, rather than our end. So yes there is a long way still to come to move near our end, quite a bit more than 10M I think. His thoughts were to go from the back of the dog field to the back of the ironing guy, so the other side of the trees to templewood as it is more across grass rather than concrete. Would have to work out how to get into yours then though, to miss your garaging/sheds. Neither seems spot on. He did think Billy had something in his contract saying he is allowed to take elec cables across Barrett land.
Timings; Jan 27 is when Templewood trench is meant to be being done. Feb 2 when they connect them (& maybe Gary if he's ready) up. As I think I said, once that happens the generator becomes virtually unusable as will be shared among less people (arguable if it is now). We hoping Gary can persuade Templewood to order one more delivery to tide them over till they connect - after that prospect is not good I think. He did say Barrett is meant to be over Monday (although we've had that promise broken a couple of times already). Have you been able to have any responses from hime recently - he tends not to acknoweldge any emails form me to headingtioncarriers. He should be stumping up for the pumping station connection at the very least.
What can you tell about the "toxic waste field"? Is that the land behind my fence? How close are we living to it?
Iain
hi iain,
my reference to toxic waste was just my semi humourous rference to the
unit 7 bonfires that go on behind us ,that smell a bit plasticy ,i dont
think they are very healthy.
with ref to the 10metres , i was talking about a cable connecting into the
main cable to templewood ,about 10metres before the mian cabe REACHES
templewood ,and coming over to unit 7 ..basically the same as garys
suggestion ..having said all this , if a 185 cable is coming to garys
house at the rd side face ,that could come down garys drive and across the
gardens and then spur down.
the concept of one cable coming to your house ,or my house ,and they a
link along the wall to the other propery is acceptable to me ,i also dont
mind a meter box next to the front door on the side of the porch if it
simplifies matters .
ill put this convo on the site .
regards
robert
phew ,there we go ,all latest mails in there .two things to bear in mind , 1) the easiset route to the house avoiding concrete may not be the shortest ,but may be the cheapest
2)without the sewage pumping stn working ,we may all be in a frantic fit to insert our own wste treatment plants in a few weeks time !

hoooray
well i just spoke to matthew claridge ,at sse ,and he had allready decided to stuff a 185 cable inot the trench to templewood . hes sending me a mail to confirm this .
i sent him this
hello matthew,
this is to let you have my address as we discussed a few miinutes ago ,8
in the morning here for me ,and 4 in the afternoon for you !
its a great relief to have seen common sense prevail, with the bigger
185mm cable going in .
i think the situation with gary almmond ,was ,by his account ,that he
asked for a quote for 4 houses ,but was told that was not possible due to
it contravening some code of practise about data protection etc ,he had no
choice but to arrange his own supply ..when he pointed out that i had
been given a 4 house quote in november , he was told that was not so and
it was a one house quote . ..very perplexing .. i was very happy for gary
or ian at east cottage ,to arrange things and id just send money from here
.
incedentally , in case you may think im lolling around out here ,i was
supposed to be home 10th of dec , unfortunately ,my partners daughter
chloe ,was rushed into emergency and had to then wait for a surgical
opening which is now happening on the 21st of jan ,shes in a lot of pain
and i decided to forgo my ticket and stay here and help .,the 4th of feb
was the next affordable ticket .
please realize that i may not be quite up to snuff and seem a bit stupid
after i get back since i have a chronic fatigue syndrome disabilility and
suffer from jet lag a bit more than normal ..
there you go, bit of back ground, probably sent you to sleep!
regards
robert.
so that means we connect to the cable at the pumping stn end of templewoods building ,and then run over to us , a site visit will take place upon my return ,and then we can get digging .not really sure why i have to be there since i couldnt care less what happens to my garden as long as i get a supply ,but there you go.

communications from sse
got this from martyn dopson ,
Dear Mr Burnett
Further to the your EMail, I have spoken to Graham Street, Acting Operations Manager Oxford Depot who have asked me arrange a site visit with yourself, our Team Manager Matt Claridge and myself on your return so that a agreed route and quote can be found.
The 95 wavecon which was quoted on JNT858a was for the domestic supplies only and didn't include the Commercial sites.
Regards
Martyn
and this from colin hood ,
Dear Mr Burnett

ian asked for the mail address of martyn or matthew , i only have this for martyn ,
oxford.new.business@scottish-southern.co.uk
trouble is, if they wait 10 days to either give new advice or for me to return ,then the other cable will be done by then and we have to pay for a new cable probably bang on top of the new one just laid .... this is rediculous !

Martyn
and this from colin hood ,

convo with gary
spoke to gary this afternoon ,
he told me that the impression that he'd paid for his supply a while ago ,that i was given by the sse chap martyn dopson ,was actully totally incorrect and hed only paid it yesterday ,in response to a letter from sse saying '' heres your quote ,and it was for only one house'' ,after gary had specifically asked for a quote for all 4 houses .
he called them and said
''why is this for only 4 houses when the engineer matthew claridge ,came round all 4 houses and was quote ok about a 4 house quote ,he was told by martyn dopson that they cannot give out multi house quotes ,due to it being a breach of confidentiality ! eh??? said gary ,you gave robert a multi house quote last november ,''no we didnt that was a single house quote'' ...this isnt true , it was definately a multi house quote and i have it on my pc sent to me by dopson if anyone wants a copy !
so thats whats happening there , with reference to the sewage pumping stn , gary said hed spoken to barratt about it ,and that he gary ,felt that it should not be a problem to link inot the cable from the bottom to the top since it only runs a few feet from the stn ,and then put a meter in the stn connection box .i wondered about this ,and it occurs to me that the stn probably runs 3 phase ,and the cable from the bottom may be single ph , in which case this may not work ,it needs to be checked ,and most importantly ,barratt has to comit to it ,since no pumping stn would be a bit unpleasant !i said to gary ,we would all be better off with sceptic tanks ,and if sharing, just get charged for clearing them based on our water meter readings .
so tomorrow gary will call up matthew claridge and try to find out why thers no mention of a 4 hs quote .and also talk to templewood and see if they can combine forces to get the sse to put in a bigger 185mm cable ,and use the 95mm cable allocated for the site to do the length to billys house ... brilliant lateral thinking by gary !

just sent this to mr colin hood ,ceo sse ,in perth .
dear mr hood ,
i live in a freehold house with three other freehold houses , on an ex
government site .
our supply came from the site power board owned by cherwell homes (peter
barratt)our supply was cut off by sse before christmas due to his having
run up a 17 k bill ,blaming the 4 houses for this ,although we are all
paid up ,with reciepts.
i got an old generator on the site to work, and this has been running over
christmas with oil paid for by the houses, and a lot by templewood
security ,one of the business on the site behind us ,site still owned by
barratt.
we are all trying to get a supply arrianged from the mains transformer
,and we 4 houses would all pay to get it installed .
after a sse site visit by matthew claridge sse oxford ,,templewood said
they were going to be having a cable laid to ther site ,which is near to
the houses ,so we all thought ok ,we'll get quotes to connect to this
cable .
i find out today that , gary almond , one of the house owners ,has been
told that we can no longer have quotes to include all of us due to it
contravening the freedom of information act ,and that we each have to get
a separate quote ..and that now , the sse are planning to ,and have
recieved money for a cable to one of the houses and templewood .the other
3 houses are being told that the cable is ordered and is now too small to
be uses for them as well .
gary ,at the one house that will be connected has looked at his plans and
the cable they specify is 95 wavelon ,this is the same spec that i was
given in another quote ref JNT858a to feed all 4 houses and the units
beside us !
were very concerned that an attempt to get two different amounts of money
is being made ,and we are now getting told that we need a tranformer and a
supply from a new direction .
please do have a look at the blog ,im afraid its a bit garrulous ,but weve
been without any mains supply now for about 10 weeks i think it is .
im in vancouver ,,will be back on the 4th ,my partners 17 year old
daughter is undergoing emergency surgery on the 21st and this is the next
flight i can get .i should have been home on the 10th of dec .
ill enclose the web blog site for this situation so you can see whats been
happening .

oooof
well some new data recieved today ..got a mail from gary, thanks gary ,
Robert
rang sse yesterday to chase up latest quote to be told they can't give me any quotes for the
other 3 houses and you have to contact direct.
contact martin dopsom 01865 845805 he told me you have all had seperate quotes in the past i have
spoken to billy and iain about this. if there is anything you think i can do please let me know
Gary
so called up martyn ..
he told me that templewood and gary have both paid for supply ,the cable was ordered and it would not be a big enough cable to supply the other 3 houses ..
.. i went through all the options i could think of with him , he was tending to the idea of a transformer from across the rd ,which in the past hes allways said would cost a lot more .. i asked couldnt they put in a bigger cable ? , actually ,probably quicker if i show the mail i then sent him ..
hi martin , first let me say thanks for your patience in this matter .
we just spoke on the phone ,and discussed these options ..
1 putting in a bigger cable that will be able to supply the 3 other houses
,inot the trench to templewood ..extra cost to be met by 3 houses .
2)putting a 2nd cable in the same trench as the templewood cable.
3)putting in a transformer across the rd and bringing in supply from there .
i think thats about it ..i cant really believe your management would let
this situation occur with a smaller than necessary cable going in ,when
this situation has been so publicised ,and it would have been so easy to
just get in contact with the 3 houses to see if theyd want to be included
, but thats not your fault ..i know billy mcniel is in contact with perth
head office and hell take that up with them i think .
again thanks for your help ,i understand you have to take action based
upon your management policy .

i then called gary on his mobile ,thanks to veronica for letting me run up a bill ,and asked him about it , he was very good at explaining that hes been round all the houses with the engineer ,and that after looking at his plans for the quote he paid for this morning ,he could see that the cable was also 95 wavecon ,so this business of the cable being too small was not consistent ,with my quote from ages ago and the new quote ,,so i then sent this off to martyn ..
hi martyn
just checked your cable specs for the quote sent to me
Re: JNT858a
its 95 wavecon ... gary almond tells me this is also the size specified
for his and templewoods install loking at his quote and plan,,so how can
this be too small for the other 3 houses to go on ?
regards
robert burnett
also gary is going to call up the contacts at sse he has and try to see whats going on .i called billys work and mob and left a message .
there sounds like theres a real possibility of templewood and gary getting connected ,and the 3 houses left out ,and stuck ,so we need to get cracking on this .
iv got ians link from micheal now so i hope i can link this blog into that too .
in case anyones sent me any mails , i have had no mails telling me all this was ginig on since this one from gary on the 4th jan .

also got this from micheal of parish council fame
Hi Robert/ William
I was contacted by your neighbour Iain Palk a few days ago looking to see whether the Parish Council could assist in your problem with the loss of electricity supply to the four houses at Park Farm.
I spoke with a manager of Scottish & Southern who likened the problem to a landlord of a group of flats who doesn't pay his bill and the tenants are cut off because they have no contract with the supply company, if they had they could not be cut off.
The business side of SSE was not back from Xmas when we spoke and he was going to speak to them on the 4th Jan and someone come back to me. They have not as yet.
Do you think there enough interested parties to form a company to take over the supply and so restore the supply, he thought that was the only probable outcome if getting the supply direct to each property was too expensive.
Michael
and this was my reply ...
hi mike ,
thanks for your mail , i have linked you into the powerstation site so you can get a fuller picture .
i think that it may be the best plan to try to get new cables layed ,and i will try to get onto that, if its not sorted ,on my return . i think we would all be ok to put in money to achieve it ,althuogh in reality its totally unfair and the owner of the site is rsponsible for our supply .
regards
robert
so they are on board i will link mike to this blog and he can see the progress .. i dont have ian and monikas address so if anyone can link them in that might be good .

news from the front .
i had a convo with gary yesterday ,and the data recieved was ,
1) billie and gill put approx 1000 pounds worth of oil into the generator tank ,due to templewood declining to put anything in over the christmas holiday since they would not be in the offices and would not need power .
2) gARY contributed 360 to this oil payment ,and if ian and monika put in 360 then each of the houses will have put in a third .west cottage was not occupied .
3)gary had his 60 quid jump leads stolen .
4)the generator is using a bit of engine oil ,and was topped up last week .
5)templewood may intend to put in a sse supply to thier sites ..this would bring the sse much closer to the houses and reduce our costs .
6)clinkard at unit 7 says he wishes to have power to his unit and will donate 1000 to facilitate this ...id say this is probity dependant, as it is for all of us!
7)gary will try to communicate with templewood on monday re sse cables .
8) gary suggested a reasonable request to barratt would be to ask him to do the digging for the cabling .
9)my idea, re cabling, is to find the cable underground as it comes into my property ,and bring the sse cable to this point on the perimeter ,and have the meter box there and then connect it to the end of the original cable into the house .
i would like to say thank you to billie and gill for thier efforts to keep the houses running this christmas ,and of course to gary who is ,i assume, still doing the daily pumping duty without which nothing would work .
happy new year to all
regards
robert .
