from iain on the front ..

Jan 29 - SSE the nations number one!

Okay lets do the good news.
4 houses have 4 meters all ready to go
Held this one back from yesterday as did not want to jinx it... Gary has been using his charm(?) when the templewood honcho was in and it is looking like they have instructed their contractors to connect up the pump station. Think they are putting a private meter in from their supply and will aim to charge it back to Barret deducted from rent (so their contractor told me). Great result if comes to fruition.

Onto SSE. Bit of chaos this morning with Matt coming on site, they guy making the connection out back flagged up that yesterday SSE had laid the wrong cable (all 100M of it). To make things worse Chris had just back-filled 2/3rds of the trench. Think 3K of wasted cable was talked about, Matt not happy. Anyway they did put a new one in later in the day and some connections have been made but obviously there has been some delay. Tuesday is still live day though apparently.

Bit more Robert specific - SSE did put some pipe/duct around the cable running along the base of the house so that looks a lot better now. I popped back just after he'd fitted the meter for a look and found that the bottom hinge of the box had popped out (sigh). Reckoned he'd opened it over 180 deg. I called him back to see if he could sort it but after faffing a bit he dropped the metal bar - once we found it I've popped it in a bag for when Robert is back. Expect it can be popped back in, or put right another way by a proper engineer.

Was expecting my garden to be put back together in the afternoon and was going to give Chris & co some more cash, but with the delays/re-trenching he did not have time. Think most of Park Lodge is done though. Managed a quick chat with him, seems like he will be back on Monday to finish off.

Just to cap off SSE's day, one of their guys reversed into the gate post (near butchers) and took the bumper off the van - oops!

Gary is reckoning the diesel should (just) last till Tuesday....

  1. blimey , sounds like progress with a capital PPPPPP!
bet there was some chagrin expressed at finding the wrong size cable ,was that ducted of did 100m need digging up again ?

the connection to the pupm stn is sounding encouraging ,be interesting to see how much electricity it uses .
its just possible that theres a saok away on the chamber ,and in general use it isnt pumping all the time ?

totally confused about my box ,but im sure it can be fixed somehow ... is the lid still attached ? what steel bar ? lol. ill have to see if i can find a proper engineer to look at it ,in case my bumbling lack of adeptitude cant cope lol.

looks like we may be at the point where, in this case ,the scrambler WILL make the jump over the barbed wire ..oh yes !

  2. The grass trench from dog pound to near butchers needed re-digging at least.
Box fine, no problem at all when shut, just need to be careful on opening/closing (which does not happen often I guess). Has a little pin top & bottom which the door pivots on - won't win any design awards, SSE guy said it happens a lot.
